These pieces use the internet as their medium, they were all created in the late 1990s, and their code isn’t entirely functional anymore. They’re left as is, mostly because they’re installed on servers I no longer have access to, some use technologies like Flash which is for all intents and purposes defunct, or their code requires a significant update and I wasn’t its author, e.g. the Java chat in “Open Source,” and /or simply because I’ve moved on. As Jon Ippolito and Richard Rinehart have written, these are brittle technologies, and collection isn’t the same as preservation.
